This is why the war must be won...

...or in time this too will come to our shore

From the Protestant Church of Smyrna

A letter to the Global Church from The Protestant Church of Smyrna

Dear friends,
This past week has been filled with much sorrow. Many of you have heard by now of our devastating loss here in an event that took place in Malatya, a Turkish province 300 miles northeast of Antioch, the city where believers were first called Christians (Acts 11:26).

On Wednesday morning, April 18, 2007, 46 year old German missionary and father of three Tilman Geske prepared to go to his office, kissing his wife goodbye taking a moment to hug his son and give him the priceless memory, "Goodbye, son. I love you."

Tilman rented an office space from Zirve Publishing where he was preparing notes for the new Turkish Study Bible. Zirve was also the location of the Malatya Evangelist Church office. A ministry of the church, Zirve prints and distributes Christian literature to Malatya and nearby cities in Eastern Turkey. In another area of town, 35 year old Pastor Necati Aydin, father of two, said goodbye to his wife, leaving for the office as well. They had a morning Bible Study and prayer meeting that some other believers in town would also be attending. Ugur Yuksel likewise made his way to the Bible study.

None of these three men knew that what awaited them at the Bible study was the ultimate testing and application of their faith, which would conclude with their entrance into glory to receive their crown of righteousness from Christ and honor from all the saints awaiting them in the Lord’s presence.

On the other side of town, ten young men all under 20 years old put into place final arrangements for their ultimate act of faith, living out their love for Allah and hatred of infidels who they felt undermined Islam.

On Resurrection Sunday, five of these men had been to a by-invitation-only evangelistic service that Pastor Necati and his men had arranged at a hotel conference room in the city. The men were known to the believers as "seekers." No one knows what happened in the hearts of those men as they listened to the gospel. Were they touched by the Holy Spirit? Were they convicted of sin? Did they hear the gospel in their heart of hearts? Today we only have the beginning of their story.

These young men, one of whom is the son of a mayor in the Province of Malatya, are part of a tarikat, or a group of "faithful believers" in Islam. Tarikat membership is highly respected here; it’s like a fraternity membership. In fact, it is said that no one can get into public office without membership in a tarikat. These young men all lived in the same dorm, all preparing for university entrance exams.

The young men got guns, breadknives, ropes and towels ready for their final act of service to Allah. They knew there would be a lot of blood. They arrived in time for the Bible Study, around 10 o’clock.

They arrived, and apparently the Bible Study began. Reportedly, after Necati read a chapter from the Bible the assault began. The boys tied Ugur, Necati, and Tilman’s hands and feet to chairs and as they videoed their work on their cellphones, they tortured our brothers for almost three hours*

[Details of the torture--
* Tilman was stabbed 156 times, Necati 99 times and Ugur’s stabs were too numerous to count. They were disemboweled, and their intestines sliced up in front of their eyes. They were emasculated and watched as those body parts were destroyed. Fingers were chopped off, their noses and mouths and anuses were sliced open. Possibly the worst part was watching as their brothers were likewise tortured. Finally, their throats were sliced from ear to ear, heads practically decapitated.]

Neighbors in workplaces near the printhouse said later they had heard yelling, but assumed the owners were having a domestic argument so they did not respond.

Meanwhile, another believer Gokhan and his wife had a leisurely morning. He slept in till 10, ate a long breakfast and finally around 12:30 he and his wife arrived at the office. The door was locked from the inside, and his key would not work. He phoned and though it had connection on his end he did not hear the phone ringing inside. He called cell phones of his brothers and finally Ugur answered his phone. "We are not at the office. Go to the hotel meeting. We are there. We will come there," he said cryptically. As Ugur spoke Gokhan heard in the telephone’s background weeping and a strange snarling sound.

He phoned the police, and the nearest officer arrived in about five minutes. He pounded on the door, "Police, open up!" Initially the officer thought it was a domestic disturbance. At that point they heard another snarl and a gurgling moan. The police understood that sound as human suffering, prepared the clip in his gun and tried over and over again to burst through the door. One of the frightened assailants unlocked the door for the policeman, who entered to find a grisly scene.

Tilman and Necati had been slaughtered, practically decapitated with their necks slit from ear to ear. Ugur’s throat was likewise slit and he was barely alive.

Three assailants in front of the policeman dropped their weapons.

Meanwhile Gokhan heard a sound of yelling in the street. Someone had fallen from their third story office. Running down, he found a man on the ground, whom he later recognized, named Emre Gunaydin. He had massive head trauma and, strangely, was snarling. He had tried to climb down the drainpipe to escape, and losing his balance had plummeted to the ground. It seems that he was the main leader of the attackers. Another assailant was found hiding on a lower balcony.

To untangle the web we need to back up six years. In April 2001, the National Security Council of Turkey (Milli Guvenlik Kurulu) began to consider evangelical Christians as a threat to national security, on equal footing as Al Quaida and PKK terrorism. Statements made in the press by political leaders, columnists and commentators have fueled a hatred against missionaries who they claim bribe young people to change their religion.

After that decision in 2001, attacks and threats on churches, pastors and Christians began. Bombings, physical attacks, verbal and written abuse are only some of the ways Christians are being targetted. Most significant is the use of media propaganda.

From December 2005, after having a long meeting regarding the Christian threat, the wife of Former Prime Minister Ecevit, historian Ilber Ortayli, Professor Hasan Unsal, Politician Ahmet Tan and writer/propogandist Aytunc Altindal, each in their own profession began a campaign to bring the public’s attention to the looming threat of Christians who sought to "buy their children’s souls". Hidden cameras in churches have taken church service footage and used it sensationally to promote fear and antagonism toward Christianity.

In an official televised response from Ankara, the Interior Minister of Turkey smirked as he spoke of the attacks on our brothers. Amid public outrage and protests against the event and in favor of freedom of religion and freedom of thought, media and official comments ring with the same message, "We hope you have learned your lesson. We do not want Christians here."

It appears that this was an organized attack initiated by an unknown adult tarikat leader. As in the Hrant Dink murder in January 2007, and a Catholic priest Andrea Santoro in February 2006, minors are being used to commit religious murders because public sympathy for youth is strong and they face lower penalties than an adult convicted of the same crime. Even the parents of these children are in favor of the acts. The mother of the 16 year old boy who killed the Catholic priest Andrea Santoro looked at the cameras as her son was going to prison and said, "he will serve time for Allah."

The young men involved in the killing are currently in custody. Today news reported that they would be tried as terrorists, so their age would not affect the strict penalty. Assailant Emre Gunaydin is still in intensive care. The investigation centers around him and his contacts and they say will fall apart if he does not recover.

The Church in Turkey responded in a way that honored God as hundreds of believers and dozens of pastors flew in as fast as they could to stand by the small church of Malatya and encourage the believers, take care of legal issues, and represent Christians to the media.

When Susanne Tilman expressed her wish to bury her husband in Malatya, the Governor tried to stop it, and when he realized he could not stop it, a rumor was spread that "it is a sin to dig a grave for a Christian." In the end, in an undertaking that should be remembered in Christian history forever, the men from the church in Adana (near Tarsus), grabbed shovels and dug a grave for their slain brother in an un-tended hundred year old Armenian graveyard.

Ugur was buried by his family in an Alevi Muslim ceremony in his hometown of Elazig, his believing fiance watching from the shadows as his family and friends refused to accept in death the faith Ugur had so long professed and died for.

Necati’s funeral took place in his hometown of Izmir, the city where he came to faith. The darkness does not understand the light. Though the churches expressed their forgiveness for the event, Christians were not to be trusted. Before they would load the coffin onto the plane from Malatya, it went through two separate xray exams to make sure it was not loaded with explosives. This is not a usual procedure for Muslim coffins.

Necati’s funeral was a beautiful event. Like a glimpse of heaven, thousands of Turkish Christians and missionaries came to show their love for Christ, and their honor for this man chosen to die for Christ. Necati’s wife Shemsa told the world, "His death was full of meaning, because he died for Christ and he lived for Christ… Necati was a gift from God. I feel honored that he was in my life, I feel crowned with honor. I want to be worthy of that honor."

Boldly the believers took their stand at Necati’s funeral, facing the risks of being seen publicly and likewise becoming targets. As expected, the anti-terror police attended and videotaped everyone attending the funeral for their future use. The service took place outside at Buca Baptist church, and he was buried in a small Christian graveyard in the outskirts of Izmir.

Two assistant Governors of Izmir were there solemnly watching the event from the front row. Dozens of news agencies were there documenting the events with live news and photographs. Who knows the impact the funeral had on those watching? This is the beginning of their story as well. Pray for them.

In an act that hit front pages in the largest newspapers in Turkey, Susanne Tilman in a television interview expressed her forgiveness. She did not want revenge, she told reporters. "Oh God, forgive them for they know not what they do," she said, wholeheartedly agreeing with the words of Christ on Calvary (Luke 23:34).

In a country where blood-for-blood revenge is as normal as breathing, many many reports have come to the attention of the church of how this comment of Susanne Tilman has changed lives. One columnist wrote of her comment, "She said in one sentence what 1000 missionaries in 1000 years could never do."

The missionaries in Malatya will most likely move out, as their families and children have become publicly identified as targets to the hostile city. The remaining 10 believers are in hiding. What will happen to this church, this light in the darkness? Most likely it will go underground. Pray for wisdom, that Turkish brothers from other cities will go to lead the leaderless church. Should we not be concerned for that great city of Malatya, a city that does not know what it is doing? (Jonah 4:11)

When our Pastor Fikret Bocek went with a brother to give a statement to the Security Directorate on Monday they were ushered into the Anti-Terror Department. On the wall was a huge chart covering the whole wall listing all the terrorist cells in Izmir, categorized. In one prominent column were listed all the evangelical churches in Izmir. The darkness does not understand the light. "These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also." (Acts 17:6)

Please pray for the Church in Turkey. "Don’t pray against persecution, pray for perseverence," urges Pastor Fikret Bocek.

The Church is better having lost our brothers; the fruit in our lives, the renewed faith, the burning desire to spread the gospel to quench more darkness in Malatya …all these are not to be regretted. Pray that we stand strong against external opposition and especially pray that we stand strong against internal struggles with sin, our true debilitating weakness.

This we know. Christ Jesus was there when our brothers were giving their lives for Him. He was there, like He was when Stephen was being stoned in the sight of Saul of Tarsus.

Someday the video of the deaths of our brothers may reveal more to us about the strength that we know Christ gave them to endure their last cross, about the peace the Spirit of God endowed them with to suffer for their beloved Savior. But we know He did not leave their side. We know their minds were full of Scripture strengthening them to endure, as darkness tried to subdue the unsubduable Light of the Gospel. We know, in whatever way they were able, with a look or a word, they encouraged one another to stand strong. We know they knew they would soon be with Christ.

We don’t know the details. We don’t know the kind of justice that will or will not be served on this earth.

But we pray-- and urge you to pray-- that someday at least one of those five boys will come to faith because of the testimony in death of Tilman Geske, who gave his life as a missionary to his beloved Turks, and the testimonies in death of Necati Aydin and Ugur Yuksel, the first martyrs for Christ out of the Turkish Church.

Personal Note:

Even if you're not a Christian, this kind of irrational behavior should trouble you about Islam... Not all Muslims, but certainly the ones who wish to see the Great Satan destroyed. Irrespective of the reasons we are in Iraq now, this is a war that cannot be lost. Not if we truly wish to see our children live in a country free of this kind of hatred and intolerance. It's bad enough that the government actively seeks to erase Christianity from the forefront of society... it's bad enough that there are organizations today dedicated to tearing down everything even remotely 'Christian' in this nation, but the last thing we need-- as a nation, not simply the Church --is to invite the peaceful religion of Islam to do unto us as we do unto ourselves... only worse.

Prayer is all well and good. We SHOULD pray for the salvation of Muslims, we should seek to convert them, but we should pray for the Church especially, that they might endure and persevere what is happening in Turkey and the rest of the world. Or one day this hatred will come to American shores.

Thanks to Ms. Green for pointing the way

Please pray for the Church in Turkey and elsewhere.

Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Food, Water Supply

Studies Being Done to Determine Long-Term Effects of Small Amounts of Perchlorate on Human Health

ABCNews.com, April 28, 2007

Perchlorate, a chemical used in rocket fuel, is turning up in the nation's food -- in vegetables like lettuce and spinach -- and water supply.

You've never heard of it? Most Americans haven't, but millions have been exposed to it. This week Congress held hearings to determine just how dangerous it is to humans' health.

"A study from the Centers for Disease Control last year tested almost 3,000 people who are representative of the U.S. population. They found perchlorate in every single person," said Dr. Anila Jacob of the Environmental Working Group.

so how did something used to launch inter-continental missiles and the space shuttle find its way into our homes?

At a hearing of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce this week, a government report was made public for the first time revealing that at sites in more than 25 states, perchlorate had leaked into the drinking water and soil. About 65 percent of that contamination was attributed to the Department of Defense and to NASA.

The Pentagon said it has invested "over $114 million in research related to perchlorate toxicity," and that they are "developing substitute chemicals."

Doctors agree that large amounts of the chemical can lead to thyroid problems in adults and abnormal brain development in children, but it is still unknown how much damage smaller amounts can inflict.

"The developing fetus can have severe inhibition of brain development as a result of perchlorate intake by the mother through drinking water or through breast milk," Rep. Albert Wynn, D-Md. said.

Democrats on Capitol Hill are working on a bill that would require the EPA for the first time to set strict guidelines limiting the amount of perchlorate in the nation's drinking water.

For now, more research is being done to determine if the amounts present today can cause any serious damage to people's health.

Personal Note: So, it's not enough that our food supply is already tainted to the point of 'deadly' from additives and industrial chemicals on the label! Now we have to worry about rocket fuel!? At the risk of sounding like an environmentalist wacko, too many people are sick and dying in this country because of diet... because the foods we eat are saturated with unnatural chemicals that the body can't assimilate... unnatural chemicals that the FDA ALLOWS in our food.

Want to know why Cancer is on the rise? Diabetes? Autism? Well, I'm no doctor, but commonsense says the only thing that's changed in the last 100 years is our diet, first and foremost, and our environment secondarily. The increase of disease and disease related death can only be attributed to one or the other.

Pick up a box of Hamburger Helper and read the label. How many of those ingredients do you actually recognize? Do you know what they are? How the body reacts to them? Is the body capable of assimilating them? Or must the body store them somewhere, where they build-up until....

What kills me [or rather, what's "killing" me] is the near complete myopic approach to "healing" western medicine practices. They go to schools that teach the "maintenace" of illnesses rather than "curing" disease.

Suggest to your family physician that you want to try a holistic approach to whatever ails you, and if you're a minor they'll take your parents to court and try to force deadly therapies on you. If you're an adult, they'll tell you that without such-and-such medications you will worsen and perhaps die. They'll tell you there is no cure for your disease. They amputate the wrong limbs, cut out the wrong kidneys, perform the wrong procedures, prescribe the wrong medicines... ruin or kill their patients... and they expect us to trust them with our lives, and take their word as though it came from God Himself.

Sorry. Not me. Not anymore. How is it we'll shop around for TV's, cars, and houses, but we won't shop around for doctors... we call an make appointments because someone recommended him or her. We'll traipse in and believe everything he or she tells us. Rarely getting second opinions. He gives us a prescription? We fill it, without question. He's a doctor after all! Well, I'll go to the doctor for bloodwork and check-ups but unless I'm having a stroke, heartattack, appendicitus, or any number of other immediate emergencies, I'll opt for the natural approach-- the body is designed to heal itself, provided it is healthy and has everything it needs to do so. But America food supply has advanced lightyears in terms of taste, and yet our foods have somehow become less and less nutritious as a result. We sacrifice quality for flavor, nutrition for a quick "pick-me-up" [Tiramisu... Yummmm!]

But realistically, why would any doctor wish to cure you of your disease? Especially when he can keep you in a maintenace-mode. Why would he wish to heal you and lose a patient? And the insurance money to cover all the tests and check-ups he puts you through?

The American Diabetes Association gets some of it's funding from the manufacturers of artificial sweeteners, which are hazardous to your health!

I'm beginning to rant... So I'll end it here, except to say, many of these people do not have your best interests at heart, but their own.

Harry Reid Must Resign...

...as Democratic majority leader. If Democrats are to have any hope of fielding a viable candidate for the White House next year, if Democrats hope to retain power in Congress, Reid must resign his leadership role. To publicly state, whatever his private feelings, within earshot of the enemy, that this nation has lost the war shows his complete ineptness for leading a nation at war. However he wishes to paint our military involvement in Iraq, we ARE at war. And we cannot afford to lose.

To echo his critics, if America has lost the war in Iraq, who then has won? The insurgents? The foreign fighters from Syria and Iran and any number of other Muslim states? Al-Qaeda? Is that something we can be comfortable with? To allow the enemy to know for certain that America cannot fight for what it holds dear? To telegraph our punches so deliberately as to give our enemy a helping hand in killing American troops? Reid's comment was not simply treasonous-- a lot of other labels prop the treason up, not as a straw man, but as the heart of truth for him and everyone who championed his statement, which was reckless, cowardly, foolish, and ignorant of the fact that his words will embolden an enemy who trains children to be suicide bombers, who treats women as chattel and literal slaves.

Harry Reid is the worst kind of fool, pandering to extremism within his own ideology to give extremism of a different breed the upper hand in murdering U.S. Citizens on the battlefield, for make no mistake! Our military is comprised of U.S. Citizens who are routinely treated as second-class citizens by Reid, Pelosi, the Democrat Party as a whole, and their sycophantic rabid base. What is worse: To have returned home from Vietnam only to be spit upon by jerks at the airport? or to be told you've lost the war while remaining on the front line at the insistence of the very ones elected to represent your best interests. Which to Senator Reid's mind must mean to have your ass shot off on foreign soil for a war he isn't even sure you can win, and have in fact already lost.

Harry Reid said the war is lost, that the only hope of winning the war is through diplomacy. What a contradiction! The war is lost, and yet it can still be won! The Senator needs to make up his mind! Which is it? Is it lost or is it won. It is obvious to anyone with ears to hear that Senator Reid is too weak to lead the senate, and must resign his leadership position. He is simply too weak to lead.

Another Democrat, Franklin D. Roosevelt (facing a similar threat to freedom and Western Civilization) said this about Nazi Germany and the Neville Chamberlains of the day:

The experience of the past two years has proven beyond doubt that no nation can appease the Nazis. No man can tame a tiger into a kitten by stroking it. There can be no appeasement with ruthlessness. There can be no reasoning with an incendiary bomb. We know now that a nation can have peace with the Nazis only at the price of total surrender. ...

The American appeasers ignore the warning to be found in the fate of Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and France. They tell you … that all this bloodshed in the world could be saved; that the United States might just as well throw its influence into the scale of a dictated peace, and get the best out of it that we can. They call it a "negotiated peace." Nonsense! Is it a negotiated peace if a gang of outlaws surrounds your community and on threat of extermination makes you pay tribute to save your own skins? Such a dictated peace would be no peace at all. …

What they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and the worst tyranny. … It is not a government based upon the consent of the governed. It is not a union of ordinary, self-respecting men and women to protect themselves and their freedom and their dignity from oppression. It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and enslave the human race. …

Let not the defeatists tell us that it is too late. … Our defense efforts must not be blocked by those who fear. … We must be the great arsenal of democracy. … No dictator, no combination of dictators, will weaken that determination by threats. … We have no excuse for defeatism. We have every good reason for hope … hope for the defense of our civilization. …

I have the profound conviction that the American people are now determined to put forth a mightier effort than they have ever yet made … to meet the threat to our democratic faith.

--President Franklin Delano Roosevelt,

December 29, 1940

I don't know what is worse... a man who believes the greatest nation and military might on the face of the earth today has lost a war it has yet to lose? or the great crowd of sycophants cheering him on! Reid is a dangerous man to this nation, and a hypocrite of the worst order, confirming General Petraeus with an overwhelmingly near-unanimous democratic vote to command the surge just prior to deliberately seeking to cut his legs out from under him... and our troops. Nancy Pelosi herself had all the time in the world to meet and foment a foreign-policy coup with a state-sponsor of terrorism, but couldn't find time to be present for General Petraeus' progress report.

Rudy Giuliani nailed Democratic hide to the wall the other day, saying:

This war ends when they stop planning to come here and kill us, but until then, if I have anything to say about it, the lesson that I learned coming out of September 11, 2001, is, never, ever again will this country be on defense waiting for them to attack us. The United States of America will be on offense and make no mistake about it, the Democrats want to put us back on defense...

The Democrats-- and I can make a lot of other points about this --do not understand the full nature and scope of the terrorist war against us. But I listened a little bit to the Democratic debates, and I could be slightly wrong about this but I think this is almost correct. If one of them gets elected it sounds to me like we're going on defense, where we got a timetable for withdrawal out of Iraq. We're going to wave the white flag there. We're going to try to cut back on the Patriot Act. We're going to cut back on the electronic surveillance. We're going to cut back on interrogation. We're going to cut back, cut back, cut back, and we'll be back in our pre-September 11 mentality of being on defense.

The question is going to be, "How long does it take and how many losses do we have along the way?" And I truly believe if we go back on defense for a period of time, we can ultimately have more losses and it's going to go on much longer. The power of our ideas is so great we'll eventually prevail. The real question is how do we get there? Do we get there in a way in which it's as expeditious as possible and with as little loss of life as possible, or do we get there in some circuitous fashion?

They hate us, not because of anything bad we've done. This has nothing to do with any aggression on the part of the United States of America. It has nothing to do with anything America is taking from anyone. It has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms that we have and the freedoms that we want to share with the world because the freedoms that we have and the freedoms that we want to share with the world are in conflict with their perverted interpretation of their religion. Their maniacal, violent, and perverted interpretation of their religion, in which they train their young people to be suicide bombers, and they train them to hate you and despise you and they train them to hate your religion and to not allow you to have religion of your own or anyone else. They hate us for the reasons that are the best about us, because we have freedom of religion, because we have freedom for women, because women are allowed to participate in society, because we have elections, because we have a free economy. Well, we're not giving that up, and you're not going to come and take it from us.

The Democratic Party is willing to put us back on defense... a 9/10 mindset. They are willing to kill more American Troops than are necessary. They are willing to wave the white flag of surrender, which they did this very week. And now they want to put one of their own in the White House? I don't see it happening.

The Democrats have gambled that they don't need the military to gain the White House. They have enough within the MoveOn rank and file to give them the Oval Office. I don't see it happening. What I do see happening is another 9/11 style attack on this nation should they get their way.

Mrs. Bill Clinton was the only candidate at the debate who answered correctly the question: "If a couple cities get nuked by Al-Qaeda tonight during the debate, what's your reaction?"

Mrs. Clinton: "We're going to retaliate"

And yet she's all but unelectable. While she can answer that question correctly, Harry Reid can't make up his mind as to whether we have, beyond hope, lost the war in Iraq.

Harry Reid must resign for the sake of the Democrat Party. But for myself, I hope he stays... He'll only serve to highlight the all too obvious shortcomings of the Democrat Party. This nation will not long survive, intact, a Democrat in the White House, ESPECIALLY with Democrats controlling both houses of Congress.

Two Things: Addition and Appreciation

In Addition:

I've added a link to Extreme Blast Billiards in the 'Just Because It's Fun' section. I wouldn't call it fun, per se, as much as... obsessively compulsive, but if it weren't fun I wouldn't go there... or would I? Nevertheless! check it out. Btw... The one just above it is a running total of how many cows have been abducted by aliens worldwide.

In Appreciation:

I was introduced to Baba Ganoush at a Mediterranean bistro this afternoon. My sister and her husband came up from Panama City to deliver a treadmill (Yes, this hamster needs more exercise than he's getting), and lunch soon followed.

Baba Ganoush is a dip made from roasted eggplant, of all things-- and tahini. It was incredibly delicious. So delicious in fact I went out and bought eggplant, tahini, and pine nuts to make my own.

Picked up a couple of passionfruit as well. When they're ripe I'll save a few seeds and add passionfruit to my ever-expanding garden.

But why stop there...?

There is a monument on the county courthouse grounds of Houston, Texas. This monument was installed in the 1950's and contains within it, encased under glass, a Bible. According to a panel of the 5th Circuit Court the monument was legal until Christians gathered there to pray. Atheists and the generally ignorant are seeking to have it removed... torn down. They seek to deface their own heritage. But why stop there?

By this tortured logic, the Washington Monument must be torn down should ANY group of Christians choose to use the monument as a site for prayer. Not only was a bible tucked within a recess of one of the cornerstones on July 4, 1848, but inscribed upon the east face of the capstone are the words 'LAUS DEO' or 'Praise be to God'

The Library of Congress must be torn down for the very same reasons, for within its rotunda is a statue of Moses bearing the Ten Commandments. There is also a mural on the ceiling depicting a young Israeli woman raising her hands in prayer to God, and numerous inscriptions bearing such statements as "The heavens declare the glory of God." There are even two bibles on display just down the lobby's main hallway! Heaven help us! Quickly, tear them all down!

There's a stature of Daniel the prophet on the property of the Organization of American States building... Tear it down!

At The Daughters of the American Revolution building, there is an inscription which reads, "Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair the event. The event is in the hands of God." Tear it down!

Inside the Supreme Court's courtroom is a frieze containing the image of Moses with a tablet bearing Hebrew inscriptions. Can anyone deny that this a portion of the Ten Commandments? Tear it Down!

At The Department of the Interior, behind one of the corner walls, is a time capsule and inside is, among other things, a Bible... Tear it Down!

In the middle of a busy intersection on Constitution Avenue, right on federal property, is a statue of General Jose Artigas bearing a cross on the good General's boot... Tear! It! Down!

The Korean Veterans Memorial bears on it's wall the Cross and the Star of David... Tear! It! Down!

Outside the Ronald Reagan building is the "Liberty of Worship" statute depicting a young woman, hands clasped in prayer, leaning on the Ten Commandments! GOOD GOLLY!!! TEAR! IT! DOWN!

Just inside the Rotunda of the U.S. Capital are four paintings depicting 2 prayer meetings, one Bible study, and a Baptism [of Pocahontas]!!! Good Lord! Tear Them Down!!!

On the floor directly beneath the rotunda of the National Archives is the Ten Commandments IN BRONZE!!! Quickly, gouge it out!!!

God is mentioned several times at the Jefferson Memorial including, "God who gave us life, gave us liberty." ...SCRATCH IT OUT, QUICKLY!!!

At the Lincoln Memorial you'll see words like, "Nation under God," "Bible" and "prayer"... Scratch them out!!!

In the Senate and House office buildings, there is a plaque that says "In God we trust." By all means, tear those buildings down too!!!!

What about the Adam's Prayer mantle in the White House!? "I pray Heaven to bestow THE BEST OF BLESSINGS ON THIS HOUSE, and all that shall hereafter inhabit it..." Good Grief! Tear it out of the wall!!!

A painting called "Knowledge" hanging in the North Hall of the Library of Congress bears the following inscription: "Ignorance is the curse of God, Knowledge the wing wherewith we fly to Heaven"... Tear it Down!!!

At the U.S. District Court building a freize depicts a man reaching for a Cross and the Ten Commandments high upon a wisp of cloud... Tear it Down!

The following can be read on the Jefferson Memorial "ALMIGHTY GOD HATH CREATED THE MIND FREE. ALL ATTEMPTS TO INFLUENCE IT BY TEMPORAL PUNISHMENTS OR BURTHENS(sic) ARE A DEPARTURE FROM THE PLAN OF THE HOLY AUTHOR OF OUR RELIGION..." That absolutely MUST come down too!!!

Also in the rotunda of the Library of Congress is a portion of verse by Alfred Lord Tennyson: "One God, One Law, One Element, And One Far-off Divine Event To Which The Whole Creation Moves" For Heaven's sake, tear that down as well!!!!

In fact... LET'S JUST TEAR THE WHOLE DAMNED CITY DOWN!!!!

But why stop there? Let's tear the entire nation down. Let's do the work of Al-Qaeda for them, eh, Senator Reid?

...

Since when did a monument bearing anything overtly 'Christian' on government property constitute a violation of the the law? When did the so-called enlightened elite manage to steal the Constitution and replace it with a fraud? ...When Liberal Education raised whole generations of Americans to be cultural ignoramuses.

Finally, there is absolutely no reason why God should bless this nation... None.

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

--Psalm 14:1-3

Rosie O'Donnell Soon to be History?

Ostensibly because of failed contract negotiations... Rosie wanting more than ABC is willing to give her. So Rosie must feel that because she brought ratings up she deserved a substantial bonus. But The View's ratings boost was obviously controversy-driven, and not based on any substance. With Rosie gone in June Joy Behar will have to carry the torch for Lunatic America, despite being not lunatic enough for 'Rage-Porn' addicts on the American left.

She's to leave the show at the end of June, but anything can happen between now and then... she could decide to take ABC's offer. It is my hope, however, that Disney, seeing that their reputation as a family-oriented company is soiled by association with the profane Rosie, is deliberately forcing her out via the artifices of contract negotiation.

Said Rosie:

"My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me,"

To Rosie O'Donnell I say, "Good riddance to your rabid opinions, and may God reveal to your soul your true 'needs for the future,' namely, Jesus Christ. Your choice of 'Lifestyle' aside, you'll have nothing beyond this earthly existence any sane person would wish for without Him.

Death Toll Limited Before Campus Gun Ban

[Here's a very short article I found at WorldNetDaily. And since I know few of you consider WND a valid news source, I'm offering corroboration from 2 other sources, one of which is a much loved by the left (and of questionable validity), Wikipedia...]

A deeply troubled and disgruntled foreign student runs afoul of college authorities.

He comes to the Virginia campus armed and starts shooting in one building.

But, unlike the massacre at Virginia Tech last week, the damage was contained in this incident that occurred five years ago, before the state legislature banned guns on college campuses.

On Jan. 16, 2002, Peter Odighizuwa, a 43-year-old student from Nigeria, walked into the Appalachian School of Law offices of Dean Anthony Sutin, 42, a former acting assistant U.S. attorney, and professor Thomas Blackwell, 41, and opened fire with a .380 ACP semi-automatic handgun – shooting them at close range.

Also killed in the same building was student Angela Denise Dales, 33. Three others were wounded.

As soon as the gunfire erupted, two students acting independently of one another, Tracy Bridges and Mikael Gross, ran to their vehicles to retrieve firearms. Gross, an off-duty police officer in his home state of North Carolina, got his 9mm pistol and body armor. Bridges got out his .357 Magnum.

Bridges and Gross went back to the building where the shots were heard and as Odighizuwa exited, they approached from different angles. Bridges yelled for him to drop his weapon and the shooter was subdued by several unarmed students.

Gross went back to his car and got handcuffs to detain the shooter until police arrived.

Most news reports of the incident failed to mention the presence of two armed students and their role in subduing the shooter, saying only that he was tackled by bystanders.

Odighizuwa was tried for the murders and sentenced to multiple life terms in prison.

Virginia Tech, like many of the nation's schools and college campuses, is a so-called "gun-free zone," which Second Amendment supporters say invites gun violence – especially from disturbed individuals seeking to kill as many victims as possible.

Foreign-born student Cho Seung-Hui murdered 32 and wounded another 15 before turning his gun on himself.

A year earlier, the Virginia legislature banned all guns on campus in the interest of safety.

From Wikipedia: The Appalachian School of Law Shooting

And then there's this piece from Law.Com: A Tragedy Compounded:

Soon after the shootings, allegations circulated among gun-rights supporters nationwide that the media had suppressed a key element of the story: That Odighizuwa had been apprehended by two law students with handguns.

The students, Tracy Bridges and Mikael Gross, had worked as police officers in North Carolina before moving to Grundy. Both said they ran to their cars and grabbed weapons when the shooting started on the second floor of the law school.

They, along with two other students, approached Odighizuwa in front of the law school. Bridges and Gross both told reporters that they raised their guns at Odighizuwa and he dropped his weapon, after which the group tackled and handcuffed him.

But Odighizuwa's gun, authorities say, was already empty, and other witnesses have said the alleged shooter never even saw the other students' guns before surrendering. (Bridges and Gross could not be reached for comment.)

"This is a good example of what happens often," says Patricia Gregory, a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association. "What gets the national coverage is that this nut went into a law school and killed people. But this guy was not a law-abiding gun owner, and he was apprehended by lawful gun owners. It's the NRA story."

I can't help but wonder if any in the Virginia Legislature feel the slightest bit of remorse for crafting a law that turned Virginia campuses into Gun-Free Zones just one year before the massacre at VT? My guess is, 'No'. Todd Gilbert, Delegate to the Virginia House, did say however that bill that died in committee last year to lift the ban on guns, would be revisited in light of this tragedy.

No place is truly safe, but anywhere people are prohibited from protecting themselves with other than fists and rocks, a lone gunman can, and likely will again, shoot up another campus. And more students and faculty will die.

These days, I'm not even sure banning guns at Day Care Centers is a good idea, let alone elementary schools. If it could happen at Beslan, it could happen here. If it could happen at Virginia Tech, it could happen ANYWHERE in the U.S.

Coming to a U.S. city near you

"What do you call a man who watches the raging inrerno that is his neighbors house, while blithely remarking that his own house is fire-proof?"

--Me

I know that, according to all the rules of political correctness, we are to view those who are different from us with respect and open acceptance, but does that mean we are to allow them to run rough-shod over everything we hold dear? How's this for contrasting cultures...?

"South Koreans living in america have been asked by their ambassador to fast for repentance after the killing spree by their countryman Cho Seung-hui."

--From the UK Telegraph, 'South Koreans told to fast over massacre'

Also from the article:

"South Koreans mourned the victims at Myeongdong Cathedral in central Seoul today, some fighting back tears from the sense of collective guilt. Members of the Roman Catholic congregation casts[sic] their heads low as they sang hymns and prayed for the souls of those killed."

Had the killer been Muslim from a middle eastern country, would that country's citizens react as South Korea has? Or would they be dancing in the streets, burning the American flag and our president in effigy? Would they sense a need to repent for their "collective guilt"? Or would they lament that more American students and faculty weren't killed as well? Would they put on sackcloth and heap ashes upon their heads? Or would they march in the streets chanting "Death to America, Death to the Great Satan!!!"?

Does anyone remember Theo Van Gogh?

Democrat Treason--Republican Response

"I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq..."

--Senator Harry Reid, (D) Nevada

[What a loser... Claiming to support the troops, while bolstering the enemy.]

"I can't begin to imagine how our troops in the field, who are risking their lives every day, are going to react when they get back to base and hear that the Democrat leader of the United States Senate has declared the war is lost"

--Senator Mitch McConnell (R) Kentucky

..::COMMENTARY::..

[No comments right now... I not done with this post, and I haven't had time to think on my own response... I'm posting only to raise your ire. Where you ultimately direct that ire will speak volumes to your patriotism or lack thereof...]

"So ... what is treason? Giving aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war. Did Reid's comments give aid to the Islamic fascists trying to kill our soldiers? How can anyone not say that Harry Reid's words did just that? The only question then is whether, in the definition of treason, we can be said to be at war.

"This may be Reid's escape. For my part, he has not only given aid and comfort to the enemy, he has emboldened them. I feel certain that American men and women in Iraq will die as a result of Reid's words encouraging the people who want to kill them.

"Bastard.

"Know this .... Democrats are absolutely invested in our defeat at the hands of the Islamic insurgents in Iraq. Good news in Iraq is bad news for the Democrat Party MoveOn.org crowd. They watch the news every day looking eager for more stories of violence in Iraq aimed at innocents and our soldiers. The absence of those stories makes them sad. The presence of those stories lift their spirits.

Virginia Tech: On a Spiritual Note

During the convocation yesterday a number of speakers took the podium.

The first speaker, a Muslim cleric, invoked the name of Allah and quoted the Qur'an. The second speaker, a Buddhist community leader preached about the basic goodness of mankind. The third speaker, a woman from the Jewish community, quoted Ecclesiastes... To everything there is a season. The fourth speaker, a Liberal(?) Lutheran Minister spoke about healing and coming together...

But not even an honorable mention for the Lord Jesus Christ. Not even from the President of the United States who was the ONLY person I heard even invoke the name God... the only true God. Lot's of mention of 'thoughts & prayers' but no mention of God by anyone other than Bush, and NO mention of Jesus Christ by anyone at all.

More Gun Control Nonesense...

Erin Moriarty made this ridiculous statement in her piece during CBS' 48 Hours: Anatomy of a Rampage...

"...it’s not just the gun that can turn a shooter into a mass killer. It's also the size of the magazine or clip that contains the ammunition."

That's right, the size of the magazine is what turns a 'shooter' into a 'Mass-Killer'! That's bogus rhetoric!

Neal Boortz on Gun Control

"Gun Control"
-- by Neal Boortz
April 17, 2007

This is undoubtedly the worst school shooting, high school, college or otherwise, in the history of our country. There are some facts, however, about some of these school shootings of which you probably are not aware. Do you know, for instance, that at least three shootings in high schools were stopped by civilians with guns? Civilians, not law enforcement. In one case a civilian was traveling past a school when he saw children running from the building. One told him that there was a student inside shooting people. The civilian pulled his gun, ran in side, and confronted the student. The student put down the gun and surrendered. In another case a high school vice-principal heard that there was a student in the hallways with a gun. He sprinted a half-mile to his car. He had a gun in his car so he had to park off campus. He then sprinted back with the gun to confront the student. Lives saved.

There have been many other cases where civilians with guns have prevented further carnage at the hands of killers. The media isn't fond of reporting these episodes because they don't contribute to the cause of gun control.

The point here is that you are never ever going to get the guns out of the hands of those who want to use them for carnage. Never. In all the years of press releases and statements from the Brady anti-gun organization there has never been one single gun control plan presented that would take the guns out of the hands of criminals. This is the oddity of gun control. Only law abiding people are going to abide by gun control laws. Criminals are not. The anti-gun lobby, and that includes much of the media, will never give any fair coverage at all to the people who use guns to save their own lives, or the lives of others.

Now here's something that I have yet to see reported in the mainstream media. Earlier this year the Virginia General Assembly failed to act on House Bill 1572. The citizens of Virginia are permitted to carry concealed weapons if they get a proper permit from the state government --- unless you are on a college campus. This bill would have allowed college students and employees to carry handguns on campus --- with appropriate permits, of course. It died in subcommittee. After the bill was thrown out up steps Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Virginia Tech, the site of today's carnage, who says "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

So .. how safe did these students and faculty in Norris Hall feel yesterday?

Now nobody can say for certain, but if it had been legal for students, employees or faculty members with permits to carry guns on the campus, is it at all possible that there might be some students alive today who didn't make it through the carnage? Do you think the actions of the Virginia General Assembly stopped the gunman from getting his guns and carrying them to the campus? Of course not. Reports are that the guns had their serial numbers scratched off. They were acquired outside of the normal channels of commerce and illegally carried to the Virginia Tech campus. The law meant nothing to the shooter. It meant something to the victims though, and perhaps that's why there wasn't one person anywhere near the shooter with a gun that might .. just might have been used for self defense.

There are those out there who think that allowing people to carry a concealed weapon on a college campus is an absurd idea. Why so? Just how is a college campus that much different than our society as a whole? Diverse people living together in common environment pursuing different goals. Where's the big difference? What is so special about a college campus that students should not be allowed to own firearms? What if some student in the dormitory had a gun? What if he heard the argument in an adjoining room and had accompanied the student advisor when he went to quell the disturbance? Could that student with a gun have stopped this carnage before it even began? We'll never know. But is there anyone out there who can say for a certainty that the day might [not] have played out quite differently?

Some of the less educated will come forth with lines of thought like "We don't want to return to the wild, wild west." Why not? What research have you put into your clever little "wild wild west" line? Do you know anything about the actual crime rates in the so-called wild west? Would you be surprised to learn that the crime rate in what we now refer to as the "wild wild west" was actually lower than it is in most American cities now? And why would that be? Because people were armed, for one thing. People were armed, and the bad guys knew that people were armed. Tell me ... just what chance do you think a lone gunman would have had in those days in lining up people against a wall and then calmly picking them off one by one. No ... I'll tell you. Slim to none. Oh he might get off a shot or two, but by then he would be the object of some rather intensive target practice.

And let's talk about people with concealed carry permits. Do you think they're dangerous? Do you think they're just wandering around ready to pull their gun and start shooting at the slightest provocation? Again .. check the statistics. People with concealed carry permits are among the most law abiding people in the nation. Oops ... another little preconception shot to hell, so to speak.

Let me ask you another question. In fact, let's set up a hypothetical situation. You're in a class full of people at a university. Let's say that there are 30 people in that room. A predator with a gun walks through the door. He shoots the professor, kills him. He then takes the remainder of the people in the room and lines them up against a wall. He then walks up to the first person and shots them in the head. Now ... let me allow you to change the scenario. We can freeze-frame this situation while you make a decision. Your decision is this: You can put a gun into the hands of one student or a professor in that room, or you can leave things exactly the way they are. What are you going to do? Come on now, let's have it. Which way do you want it? Do you want the predator to be the only one in the room with a gun? Or would you like to have at least the fighting chance that would result if one, maybe two of your classmates had a firearm.

Now believe it or not, there are people out there (we generally call them liberals) who would say; "Oh no, I don't want anyone else to have a gun! They might try to shoot the killer and innocent people might get caught in the crossfire!" Well you can try to find a rational basis for that argument from now until pigs fly, and you will fail. There is no rationality in that argument. It's an argument based in mindless hysteria.

Let's couch the argument a bit differently. Let's say you are the parent of a college student. You get a call from the campus police saying that your child is being held hostage in a classroom on the campus. The hostage-taker has a gun and has already shot one student. The police tell you that they have developed a plan whereby they are going to be able to sneak a gun into the hands of one of the students in the classroom, a student known to the police to be proficient in the use of a handgun. Before the police can take this step they need the unanimous consent of the parents of the students in that class. While you're thinking it over the hostage-taker executes another student. OK ... your decision. What do you say? Are you going to say "No, I don't want any of those students to be armed. I don't care how qualified they are with a gun." Or are you going to allow the gun to be passed to the student.

Now if your answer is that you would allow the gun to be passed to the student, then please explain your rationale for the position that the student in question should not have been permitted to have a gun in the first place with a concealed carry permit? You may have difficulty in understanding this, but it really is rather difficult to arm these students after the fact. And insofar as the shooter is concerned... you do understand that there is no way in hell to have prevented him from coming on to that campus with guns once he made up his mind to do so, don't you?

Here's another question for you to ponder. What if the Virginia legislature had passed HB 1572 and it had been signed into law? Then the shooter would have known that there was a strong likelihood that there would be some students, professors and administrators on the campus with a gun. Is there any chance at all that this might have caused the shooter to set aside his plans for carnage? Can you say for a certainty that things would have played out as they did?

Open Discussion: 2nd Amendment

While I'm still waiting to hear that the shooter was a 'Christian' (even moreso now that we've learned he's from South Korea which has a huge Christian Fellowship) especially since some details of the shooters note has been released... terms like "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans". While I'm still waiting on that score, what initially escaped me was the inevitable assault on the 2nd Amendment. BenT was first in my ear with that, but it seems the Drive-By's and their adherents are all putting forth a renewed assault on our right to keep and bear arms. A whole host of people out there, including Rosie, are talking about more gun control. So the question I'd like to ponder and open up for discussion is this:

Could stricter gun control REALLY have prevented the Virginia Tech massacre, assuming Cho Seung-Hui was a man determined to kill?

_____________

I'll begin by saying-- No, I do not believe stricter gun control in this nation would have prevented a determined Cho Seung-Hui from acquiring weapons and ammunition to attack a college campus, and commit wholesale slaughter upon members of its students and faculty.

Just look at Japan, which has perhaps the strictest gun control in the world. Shootings are almost unheard of in Japan, yet just yesterday the Mayor of the city of Nagasaki was gunned down by a member of a "criminal" organization.

From the Associated Press...

TOKYO — The mayor of the Japanese city of Nagasaki was shot to death in a brazen attack Tuesday by an organized crime chief apparently enraged that the city refused to compensate him after his car was damaged at a public works construction site, news agencies reported.

The shooting was rare in a country where handguns are strictly banned and only four politicians are known to have been killed since the Second World War.

Mayor Iccho Ito, 61, was shot twice in the back at point-blank range outside a train station Tuesday evening, Nagasaki police official Rumi Tsujimoto said.

One of the bullets struck the mayor’s heart and he went into cardiac arrest, according to Nagasaki University Hospital spokesman Kenzo Kusano. Kyodo News agency and national broadcaster NHK said Ito died of his wounds early Wednesday.

Tetsuya Shiroo, a senior member of Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest organized crime syndicate, was wrestled to the ground by officers after the attack and arrested for attempted murder, police said.

What's equally crazy (to my mind) is the idea that limiting the magazine capacity gun owners are allowed possess. Even had Cho Seung-Hui been so constrained, the very fact that he was wearing a vest loaded with ammunition and additional clips should clearly illustrate that here was a man who was determined to use as much ammo, and kill as many debauched and deceitful charlatans as he could.

Limiting the round capacity of clips for gun owners puts the gun owner at a disadvantage when, say, three armed men break into his house at night, forcing the home owner to protect his family and fight off three attackers, who are similarly armed, with an 8 or 9 round clip.

No one in their right mind advocates private citizens owning uzi's or high-powered sniper rifles... or cannons. But to preserve the 2nd Amendment, which recognizes the need for an armed citizenry, we must not curtail, to the point of making void, the American citizen's right to keep and bear arms.

Let's look at Japan again. Very few citizens own a hand gun, and they are almost all in law-enforcement. Law-abiding citizens are not allowed to own firearms. But that didn't stop a member of an organized-crime syndicate from acquiring one and using it. If gun's were severly restricted in this nation, does anyone honestly believe that law abiding citizens would be any safer from the criminal elements? Does anyone honestly believe criminals and gang-bangers would turn in their guns and revert to rocks, clubs and knives should hand-guns be outlawed?

Virginia Tech's no-gun policy is partly responsible for the number of deaths on the Virgina Tech campus yesterday. All it would have taken was one or two deaths before some life-loving student or teacher drew down on Mr. Cho and saved perhaps a score of lives. That's pure speculation, sure, but anyone who wishes to argue that legal gun owners are not trained in their use is way off the mark. 80% or more of gun owners know how to use their weapons.

I don't know what the answer to curbing gun violence is, but I know we can't do away with the 2nd Amendment. The answer lies somewhere between strict control and complete anarchy, for it's clear our present system has flaws. But the banning of guns and limiting the size of clips is not the answer. Especially in light of the fact that all this talk is occurring while emotions are very high. There needs to be time for healing and rational consideration of the events, and possible remedies to preventing such an occurrence again-- which, realistically speaking, is impossible short of complete confiscation, ionvolving door to door searches, and strict searches of every import container, parcel of mail, as well as closing the borders, both north AND south. Even then there's no guarantee.

Remember, the two greatest instances of mass murder on American soil were perpetrated by the use of fertilizer, fuel oil, box cutters, and passenger jets-- Oklahoma City and 9.11. NOT handguns. Let's all take a deep breath and think before we act.

That's my peace... what's yours?

A Thinking Man's Meme...

..::The 'Neil Young Tangents' Meme::..

I've decided to create and infect the blogosphere with another pointless meme... A Neil Young meme.

Begin with a Neil Young song. Using a word from the title of the song you choose, find another song who's content contains the same word... in relevance, then find a third song performed by a group who's name contains the same word, and who's lyrics reflect the spirit of the previous two songs.... Example:

"Ohio"
--Neil Young

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

"My City Was Gone"
--Chrissy Hynde, and the Pretenders

I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South Howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
A, O, way to go Ohio

Well I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, O, way to go Ohio

I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls
Said, A, O, way to go Ohio

"Old Dominion"
--Eddie From Ohio

You think you'll find some mountains in western Colorado
Fifty weeks of snowy peaks is where you're gonna be
But babe the Rocky Mountains are gradually eroding
The hills of Coors are nothing more than Blue Ridge wannabes

A turkey on its belly, a chicken on its back
Anyway you look at it you'll find her on the map
She revels in the seasons, shakes hands with the north
Hugs the land of Dixie while dancing on the porch

You think autumns in New England are the greatest of them all
But give me sweet Virginia for the fireworks of Fall
The prettiest October, in all the 50 states
Just drive up to the skyline, park the car and wait

So grow up Colorado
Excuse me, Tennessee
If you don't mind, North Caroline
Here's where I want to be
When you're talking home, you mean the Old Dominion
Just southeast of Heaven to the surf and the hills
She's the best of 13 sisters and 37 more
Sweet, sweet Virginia always keeps an open door

They're fiddlin' down in Galax, pickin' up in Floyd
And in the land of Patsy Cline, there're songs you can't avoid
When you're walkin' after midnight, I'll fall to pieces, too
I'm crazy back in baby's arms with sweet dreams of you

So grow up Colorado
Excuse me, Tennessee
If you don't mind, North Caroline
Here's where I want to be
When you're talking home, you mean the Old Dominion
Just southeast of Heaven to the surf and the hills
She's the best of 13 sisters and 37 more
Sweet, sweet Virginia always keeps an open door

They're sailin' down in Norfolk, and skiing up in Bryce
Climbin' up the Devils Stairs against Ranger's advice
They're harvesting in Loudoun to Shenandoah winds
And in the land near Washington, they're rootin' for the Skins
(Fight for Old DC)

Pack up your Impala, and make your move out west
Past the Blue Ridge Mountains, you'll find you passed the best
And when your dreams have ended where mountains are concerned
Me and Sweet Virginia will await for your return

Sweet, sweet Virginia always keeps an open door
Sweet, sweet Virginia always keeps an open door
Sweet, sweet Virginia always keeps an open door

What the Imus Episode Illustrates About Libs, Democrats, and Media...

Transcript:

"....Sharpton and his gang are out there now supposedly targeting the rap industry. But let me ask you a question: When's the last time they picketed an urban radio station? When's the last time they picketed Viacom, which owns MTV? When's the last they picketed Hollywood for putting out movies with these kinds of characters and lyrics?

"Zero, zilch, nada, and you know why? Because they're minorities and they don't have "hate in their hearts." Only right-wingers, only conservatives have "hate in their hearts." They couldn't contain the Imus thing. Remember, what happened on Imus' show took two days to hit, much like what I said on ESPN. There was no outrage for two days after my ESPN comments until the Philadelphia print media, all five or six, had the same column on the Tuesday following the Sunday show. That's when people were supposedly outraged and offended. By the way, the same thing happened in that case. Well, worse things happened. What I said was totally distorted. I was making comments about the media, not Donovan McNabb, yet it got totally distorted. Michael J. Fox was the same scenario -- and there is this group. The only reason for last week, Sharpton, these guys are out there supposedly targeting rap music, but that's just to give themselves some street cred. Everybody's asking about that now. So if they go out and they target rap music and say they're going to try to clean it up and the urban radio stations that play it and all these corporate interests that broadcast it and produce it, they hope to have street cred for the next talk radio guy they go after.

"Which is, believe me, their aim. That's their desire. The only reason for last week is that it is an excuse to assault conservative talk radio, even though conservatives had nothing to do with what happened last week, even though talk radio is far cleaner than urban radio, far cleaner than television, far cleaner than movies and books. This is a politically directed attack by Democrats and their media outlets. Everybody is saying, "How come Sharpton and Jackson are the final arbiters here of what's good and just?" Sharpton and Jackson, folks, you have to understand, would be nothing were it not for the Democratic Party elevating them to these positions. They both have seats at the Democrat power table because they deliver votes and they're on the team. They're part of the Democrat machine. That's why they are with this power now. Everybody is asking me at the cigar dinner, "How come Sharpton...?"

" "Well, hey, I don't know if you're a Democrat or not, but if you are, you're partially responsible, because those guys never get criticized for anything they say or anything they do."

"The Democrat Party is the party that he has made them viable and has made them powerful, and now you could say that Sharpton runs CBS and NBC given the way everybody was cowering in their boots when he showed up. The ironic thing is Imus is no conservative. Most of his guests were liberal, but he was critical of Hillary, and so he had to go. This is an election year, Clinton, Inc., you get on their case, they're going to take you out. They're going to do what they can to marginalize you or do whatever. I've seen a couple stories I was reading over the weekend that the Clinton team saw their opportunity, and when I say "the Clinton team," I include Media Matters for America, this tax-exempt, supposed media watchdog group. It's just an arm of the Democrat Party. They have an agenda. They are tax exempt, and they're doing nothing but advancing a political agenda, and they are George Soros funded. This is clearly part of the Democrat party machine, and I had some people say, "Rush, you going to talk about this today or are you going to ignore it and let it go?" I said, "No," because the main point I want to make about this is that this is a Democrat operation.

"This Democrat operation ignores large swaths of entertainment and media. We didn't hear about Bill Clinton's abuse of women from people outraged by that. That was a personal matter! It was sex. It was none of our business. In fact, when the Clintons took out after those women as trailer trash, we all chuckled and laughed and we got treated to James Carville talking about what you get when you drag a dollar bill through the trailer park. Where was the outrage over that? Where were the media watchdogs? This was coming from the office of the president of the United States! There's somebody who has genuine power. Hillary was bad mouthing the Bill Clinton women, unleashing the war room against them. That was okay, too, because that showed her strength. That showed her devoted loyalty as a wife. That showed she's not going to stand by and let her man be impugned and so forth. So whatever they do, that's fine. They've got a built-in excuse. They can't hate. They don't hate! They're liberals! They have no evil intentions in their hearts. Only right-wingers are guilty of that. Of course, in the case of the Clinton women and the women he'd abused, it was right-wingers that were calling attention to it.

" "The right-wingers have hate in their hearts! So the right-wingers are just trying to take out our people. We're going to circle the wagon around our president. I don't care what he did, it's a bunch of right-wingers trying to take him out." This is nothing but politics. It's a pure political agenda, driven by the Democrat Party machine. You can bash Christians. You can compare the president and the military to Nazis. If you're Robert Byrd, you can use the N-word on Fox News Sunday -- and all of that is okay, because they're wiser, and they don't say their words with hateful intent. You have corporations making millions, tens of million dollars from rap. That's okay. You have liberal talk show hosts using some of the most demeaning hate speech in the world, not even worthy of recording or commenting about in the Big Media. All we get about liberal talk radio is the next chance they're going to try to be successful. They keep waiting and waiting and waiting for liberal talk radio to amount to something. It never will because liberals don't like to argue. There is no argument! There is no alternative point of view, in their mind, and they don't want to be public about what they really think because they know they're wrong anyway.

"So you have Hollywood. You have the rap industry. You have the record industry. It's all part of the Democrat machine, and they don't apply any standards to themselves. Those who propped Imus up all these years, pay no price. NBC gets away with, "We are so sad. We are so shocked by what happened. But we've done the best we can. We've thought long and hard, and we've made the change." They knew what was going on in that show for decades, and they're out there selling advertising to it, and they're loving and yukking up every minute of it! The same thing with NBC and MSNBC simulcasting the thing. They pay no price at all for this whatsoever, and they're the ones that provided the studio and the air that made all this possible -- and they get off scot-free. Who paid his salary? They're getting off scot-free as well, CBS and NBC. They act like they knew nothing of his past until they denounce it. "Oh, we're shocked! We can't believe it." It's pathetic. I'm going to tell you something, folks. There are literally tens of millions of us who are going to fight these people on the left every step of the way when they attempt to destroy the new media, and that includes talk radio. It includes the Internet. It includes Fox News. It includes conservative blogs.

"This is an election season. It's only going to intensify. The left knows they can't win in the arena of ideas, in debates, on this show or anywhere else, so it's time to take 'em out. They get a trial run here with this Imus thing and they're feeling their oats, I'm certain, and make no mistake, other people are in the crosshairs and are targets, and it's a Democrat Party machine operation that is getting this done. I look at this, and I say, "This is my country, too, and I'm not going to let the Democrat Party or the left or some lackey watchdog group or a couple of race hustlers dictate my speech." I'm just not going to let it happen. They don't get to use the power of government to silence conservatives, which is their real purpose. These are totalitarian tactics that they are employing here. It's the liberal constituency that repeatedly and daily demeans people -- black, white, in between, I don't care. We don't play rap music on this show. We're not demeaning people on this program in any way.

"We don't air South Park. We don't air MTV or Comedy Central on this show, and the rest of talk radio doesn't, either. Now, look at Sharpton and Jackson. You have two liberal Democrats who ran for president who are bowed to by the likes of Hillary and other Democrats despite their long history of anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is a problem festering in the Democrat ranks, not in the Republican Party. These constantly, unrelenting, demeaning attacks on minorities come from liberal entertainment outlets. I watched a movie last night (I'm not going to tell you what the movie; it doesn't matter) and there are some black characters in it and they're made out to be criminals, drug dealers, pimps, whatever. We on talk radio do not do this! We do not perpetuate these stereotypes. We do not offer these roles to blacks to go out and play these kinds of demeaning characters. It's the entertainment industry that's done it, and that is doing it, and they're getting a free pass on this, and they are profiting from it at the same time -- and when somebody says, "Well, how can this be?" They don't have hate in their hearts because they're good liberals, you see? It's impossible for a liberal to hate.

"Look, folks, you know this. We all know this, but I'm gonna say this again. The Drive-By Media in this country are part of the Democrat machine now. As the rise of the new media has occurred and new media has gained more and more power, Bush has won two elections. Fox News is the most popular cable network. They have thrown much of the pretense to objectivity out the window. They still maintain that they're not liberal or this, but their agenda-driven aspects are just obvious. They've chosen sides. It's a partisan battle. The media is now in battle with everybody else. They're not trying to inform people. They're advancing an agenda, and they are part of the Democrat Party machine, and that's why they give a pass to their own constituencies and to their sponsors. That's why they target conservative talk radio in hopes of destroying it, and that's why liberals get away with virtually everything because the presumption is there's no hate or evil in their hearts so whatever they say is not trying to hurt. It's not trying to be bigoted or anything. No, no, no! They're allowed to do this because they are special. They're protected. They're elitists. They're a better class of people.

"You know, they fired Imus. Why not the journalists who repeatedly appeared on his show? Weren't they facilitators? Weren't they enablers? Didn't they sit there and laugh at this stuff? How is it they have any credibility left, either? They're supposedly the arbiters of taste and decency under the tenets of political correctness, yet they get a total pass here. Didn't they compromise their standards beyond repair by sitting there year after year after year after year laughing at it and begging to go back on that show? I look at this, and I marvel. The mainstream media, they're populated with Democrats who used to work for Democrat politicians, or come from prominent Democrat families, and the media make no apologies for it. You have the Kennedys and the Cuomos all over the media. You have Matthews who used to work for elected officials. Stephanopoulos worked for Clinton. Bill Moyers worked for LBJ. I'm not talking about the guests. I'm talking about so-called journalists. I'll tell you who's out there doing all this monitoring and then reporting things out of context, and that's our old buddies at Media Matters for America.

"If you want to know what the liberal media are going to report as news, ask them. Ninety percent, it seems, of what is said about me in the Drive-By Media does not come from them hearing me say it. It comes from where they read it on these watchdog websites. They don't listen to this program. The latest example of this was good old John Harris at The Politico who was told by people that I compared him and a buddy of his that left the Washington Post to the Indianapolis Colts! I never even talked about the Indianapolis Colts and the subject when it came up about the Edwards press conference and all of that. They don't listen to our shows! They go to these websites which are part of the Democrat Party machine, and that's where they hear what was said and they believe everything they see on these websites and everything they read. That's where they get their talking points, and they are taking direction (in essence, they are taking their talking points and their direction) from Democrat fundraisers: George Soros, Hillary, the DNC, because that's who it is that's telling the rest of the country who don't hear what's said on this show, what wasn't said on this show.

33 Dead at Virginia Tech ..::UPDATED::..

How did this happen? Society as a whole seriously lacks moral clarity-- the Godly kind --and backbone enough to push against the evil tide of Liberalism. [yes... there's one in every doorknob!]

How long before someone tries to point to the killer's religion as an underlying factor in his murder-spree... and how much do you want to wager they'll call him a "Christian". Well, the ignorant can't help but exude ignorance.

I can hear the call now... "We need to pull our brave men and women in the military out of the Middle East to patrol the violent streets and campuses of America."

Well... how did they get violent?

______

"It is difficult to comprehend senseless violence on this scale... Our prayers are with the families and friends of these victims, and members of the extended Virginia Tech community."

Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine

Amen to prayer, but not so difficult to comprehend.

I am a Serial Extremist

...But what does that mean? It means coworkers and ideological detractors think of me as a fanatic off-kilter ultra-rightwing fundamentalist Christian, and a nasty Conservative to boot. What makes me a serialist is the fact that I remain to this day unrepentant of my extremism.

I will not apologize for loving God, and declaring Christ the only way, the only truth, and the only life worth living. I will not apologize for believing the Republican Party, though fraught with it's own shortcomings, is the best hope for the continued enjoyment of our rights as enumerated in the Constitution of the United States of America-- Namely, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion (even that of Islam, and ESPECIALLY Christianity), the Right to Bear Arms, and the Right to Fair and Just Taxation... or none at all.

It is my firm conviction that America is swirling the bowl. If you see anything worth saving, now is the time to stick your hand in and grab it, however much filth lies in between.

Because Truth Seems Always to Need Repeating

...I've Got a Lot to Say About the "Reverend" Al Sharpton

[Originally posted on Oct. 6, 2005]

You can't blame a man for wanting to defend the poor and downtrodden. Nor can you condemn a man for speaking out against injustice. You can, however, blame and condemn a man for the fabrication of lies, and the instigation of violence resulting in death. The "Reverend" Al Sharpton is guilty of all these, and a hate-monger of the worst kind.

I have always felt distaste for Al Sharpton; not for the color of his skin, but rather the ignorance that seems to flow so freely from his mouth. I may live in the South. I may have spent much of my life in the South. But thank Heaven my formative years were spent overseas, as a child of the military, where racism-- at least in my family --was simply not tolerated. My earliest recollection of hearing the term "nigger" was when I was at least thirteen, in a middle-school that was predominately black [the Military has a penchant for integrating its children into the most "culturally rich" schools in the community]. And I was the target of racist behavior. Not because I stuttered, which I did with unthinking and embarrassing ease, but because of the color of my skin.

Last year I discovered "The Neal Boortz Radio Show" and his weblog Boortz.com/Nuze. Not being one to take the word of any one individual, I chose instead to find out for myself just who and what the real Al Sharpton is.

For context, here is the passage from Boortz/Nuze, the impetus for my own research: The 3rd item down entitled "Slime on the Podium", Dated April 30, 2004.

Maybe Sharpton can use this speech to apologize to Steve Pagones. Sharpton accused Pagones, a prosecutor, of raping Tawana Brawley. Pagones later sued Sharpton and was awarded $345,000. Sharpton has yet to apologize for his role in the Brawley affair, and his unfounded and slanderous accusations against Pagones and others.

While Sharpton's on a roll, maybe he can apologize to the family of Yankel Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum was surrounded and stabbed to death by a Brooklyn mob shouting "kill the Jews." The crowd had been whipped into a frenzy by Al Sharpton railing against "diamond merchants" with "the blood of innocent babies" on their hands. What was this all about? A young black child was killed in a traffic accident. A Jew was driving the car that killed him.

Sharpton can finish by apologizing to the families of the seven employees of Freddy's Fashion Mart in Harlem. Freddy's, you see, was owned by a white Jew. The owner of Freddy's rents his space from a black landlord. He then rents a small portion of his space to a music store owned by a black man. The black landlord raises the rent on Freddy's Fashion Mart. This means that the owner of Freddy's, the white Jew, must raise the rent on the black man who owns the record store. Enter Al Sharpton. Sharpton starts leading demonstrations. He screams to the crowd that "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Sharpton's mob starts yelling "Burn down the Jew store!" and "We're going to see that this cracker suffers." A protester enters the store. He warns all black customers to get out and then shoots four employees point-blank, then sets a fire. Seven employees dead. Sharpton owes them an apology.

When I first read this I was more than a little shocked. I mean, I never heard any of this on any MSM outlet. I remembered the news items themselves, but not any of the underlying idiocy on Mr. Sharpton's part; Only that he was a "civil rights leader". Instead, the MSM praised him incessantly, and they continue to do so.

Here are a few corroborating articles that support Mr. Boortz claims.

Reconsidering Black Anti-Semitism

Granted: The "Reverend" Al Sharpton has as many supporters as detractors on the internet. But when trying to determine the truth for one's self it becomes necessary to set aside praise and demogoguery, both, and look instead at the facts surrounding the cases in point. And the truth remains that in each case, had Mr. Sharpton not been the point man, spouting what many today consider hate-speech, Yankel Rosenbaum, and the seven employees of Freddy's Fashion Mart would not be dead. It is not against the law to speak one's mind in public, and loudly. It is, however, against the law to shout "Fire!" in a crowded theater. It is also reprehensible in light of the death and mayhem such actions inevitably cause.

Mr. Sharpton [ for I cannot in good conscious call him "reverend" ] may indeed be well-intentioned in his quest to obtain equality for Blacks in America; a ridiculous quest in that Blacks have as much-- and more --opportunity than Whites in America. But Mr. Sharpton won't be happy until America pays every single Black in America compensatory wages for suffering the indignity of Slavery in America, nevermind the fact that not a single black in America today has ever suffered under the oppressive yolk of slavery, unless you wish to include the American Welfare System.

But Eric, What about the murder of James Byrd, Jr. in Jasper Texas?
It was indeed a brutal, and particularly heinous murder. But it was perpetuated by individuals, not the institution of American Government.

Eric, what about those cops who killed Amadou Diallo?
Yes, 4 New York policemen shot and killed Amadou Diallo. But that was the ignorance and stupidity of 4 individuals, not the policy of the New York City Police Department.

The "Reverend" Sharpton, however, sees devils in every doorknob, a racist in every whiteman, a thief and degenerate in every Jew. He is, along with a few other choice individuals, a liar, and a hate-monger, with blood on his hands. Plain and Simple.

Why anyone would take this man seriously on issues of Race, and Equality is beyond my ability to comprehend. And I'm pretty damn sharp.

The Day America Ceases to be 'America' -- Pt 2

I'm guilty of it myself, stating in a previous post that Imus should be fired. But on second thought... why? Because he exercised free speech? Because nothing he said broke any FCC rule? Because by comparison what he said was far tamer than what you'd hear on ANY hip hop radio station?

Since when did Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton get to decide what is and is not acceptable speech. By THAT standard Jackson is an anti-semite... a bigot. By THAT standard Sharpton is an accessory to murder... and a bigot. So why do their voices carry more weight than, say, James D. Kennedy? or Charles Stanley? Because they're black. liberal. and in possession of moral highground.

A lot more is going on here than just one white guy dissing a black female sports team. This nation is sinking swiftly into a new brand of civil war, and freedom of speech will not be the only casualty, America will die with her.

At the risk of sounding like a stark raving conservative, Liberalism is the enemy. Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Durbin, Kennedy, Hillary, Obama... all these goons are the enemy. Imus exercised his right to free speech. That he lost his job at both MSNBC and CBS over insensitive remarks is completely at odds with the spirit of our constitution. MSNBC and CBS are well within their rights to fire him, but to fire him over this is wrong. Fire Imus for losing a dozen sponsors and millions of dollars, fine. But fire him for a racially charged remark, while other network hosts fawn over and validate Hip Hop 'artists' who peddle worse filth than Imus' 'nappy-headed hos'? That is a travesty.

On top of this, imagine the hypocrisy that allows every media outlet in the country to crucify an entire WHITE men's sports team over allegations of rape on a BLACK female, who is still championed by the the likes of Jackson and Sharpton, and yet Imus gets fired for exercising his constitutional right as an American....

There's more going on here than race... and while I'm writing more from a stream of consciousness, Boortz puts it into far better perspective....

Liberalism, and by extension, Democrats don't simply want to destroy the office of the President, an effort they began with the Clinton Administration. But they also wish to rape our Constitutional right to freedom of speech. Race Pimps Jackson and Sharpton have managed to drag Imus down with their hypocritical outrage, and an equally hypocritical media has allowed it. So, with Imus now gone, who's next?

Think I'm being unnecesarily paranoid? Sharpton himself is quoted as saying just prior to CBS' firing of Imus, "This is only the beginning. This must be a walk that CBS now does. It must be a walk that others will do, then we must have a broad discussion on what's permitted and what's not permitted..."

The most bizarre aspect of this is the unshakeable belief held by Sharpton himself that he and Jackson have the right as final arbiters to hold discussions and decide what is and is not permitted speech.... Will they muzzle Hip Hop? Will they muzzle Bill Maher, or Rosie O'Donnell? Of course not, they're Black and/or Liberal ideologues. Equally sickening is media's slavish adoration of race-warlords Sharpton and Jackson... You'd think the Reverends were joint American Popes, bestowing upon a nation gone astray tablets penned by the finger of God.

Who's next? We are... anyone with an opinion that differs from the Holy Sees of acceptable speech. And the weapon they wish to employ is The Fairness Doctrine.

Which will be the death of America.
