Im not either. The thought of abortion being illegal anywhere in the U.S., to a democrat, is like a fat guy allowing that last 'Chips Ahoy!' to sit unmolested in the package. It would eat at them-- pun intended --and eat at them until... 'that cookie must be soooo lonely, I'll just finish it off and put it out of its misery...'
Democrats would never be content to allow one state the right to choose for itself whether or not the life of an unborn child should be protected at all costs. THAT would be anathema! Like leaving one cookie in the package.

I can certainly understand why democrats would be upset about this ad. But the truth is, Democrats were the party of slavery, the KKK, the democratic party instituted Jim Crow, and the Democratic party actively and openly opposed civil rights for blacks in America. I enthusiastically recommend the Lone Ranger's page, Stop the Rupublican's!. The truth hurts. As to whether or not MLK was indeed Republican, consider this: Why would MLK vote for the party that actively sought to suppress his vote, his mind, his voice, his message, and ultimately, his life?

What would be the big deal if MLK did vote Republican? African Americans did fairly consistently for the first ~half century they had the vote. UNTIL the Republicans became the party that consistently voted against African American interests.
Then, in the 60s, African American citizens near totally abandoned the Republican party. And for good reason. It had become the party of racists and anti-progressive values (I'm not saying that they're the party of racists today, but they are still pretty darn un-progressive).
When ~90% of a whole race of people are voting against your party, that should be a red flag.
As usual, only half right. The 'red flag' you refer to should go up every time a liberal accuses Republicans of being evil racists, when in fact the opposite is true.

There you have it. What a different country this would be, had not Republicans blocked the agenda of Democrats every step of the way. But this evil organization is far from through. Now, they want to give education vouchers to public school children, so kids of every race and class can attend private schools of their CHOICE. Where will we get our garbage collectors, dishwashers and ditch diggers if blacks, Hispanics and white trash have access to a good education? They are trying to stop undocumented immigration, meaning the cheapest labor Democrats have had since the days of slavery will be taken away. They are trying to end segregation and slavery all over again!
And in true Republican tradition, they just can't stop poking their nose into other people's business, trying to destroy a woman's right to choose. They are trying to crush the secret vision of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, who once said, ""We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population…"
Is there NO end to the freedoms these fascists will try to destroy?! No matter how many lies must be told, no matter how many schoolchildren must be mis-educated, no matter how many elections must be rigged, THE REPUBLICANS MUST BE STOPPED!

So, if 90% of the African-American community votes Democrat, in spite of repeated Democratic attempts to 'keep the black man down' one must logically ask why? It's not because Republicans are racists... No. It's because blacks have fallen for the political sleight of hand performed by Democrats.
After all, Democrats are out to make sure there's enough welfare for everyone. Enough free abortions for everyone. Enough social-slavery to go around. After all, it's okay for blacks to cut the lawns, and hand the Mickey D's out the drive-thru window, but not committee chairmanships or top cabinet posts.
The Democratic Party has become the party of liars, and the sycophantic NAACP-- to say nothing of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson --has bought into one of the oldest cons there is.
Today's Republican Party isn't the shining city on the hill it once was, but it's a far cry from cities of the plains that is the Democratic Party. The same party who forgives and defends bad behavior in its own hallowed halls while condemning that same behavior in others. The Democratic party epitomizes hypocrisy.

You'll notice in LR's list that most of those Republican acts in support of blacks happened pre-60s. This is what I said. In the 60s, the Republican Party changed itself and was promptly abandoned by blacks and progressives. Thank you for validating what I said.
This is really a losing argument for the Republicans and one that is evident to everyone except those who want to fool themselves.

Dos, the Republican Party of today laying claim to the civil rights successes of yore makes about as much sense as the Democratic Party today taking credit for the Louisiana Purchase. Uh, not. "Stop the Republicans" is an interesting, rantish diversion.

The voting records EL posted show the scam that the Dems are running.
IMO, poor people, black and white alike, typically vote D because they give out the most handouts. No pulling oneself up by the bootstraps, as it were.
The rich white that vote D do so because of the guilt complex that the party has bred. The rich blacks that vote D do so because of racial intimidation; black republicans are "sell-outs" and "Uncle Toms."
A cursory look at the parties show far, far more minorities running for office in the GOP. Ken Blackwell, Condi Rice, formerly Colin Powell, Vernon Robinson, just to name a few off the top of my head.

As the article in question dealt with MLK and black uproar at hearing the truth (Believe a lie long enough and in time it becomes truth), and NOT progressives, let's leave progressives out of it. The two groups motives are quite different-- as if 'progressives' we're even an entity then; they were Democrats, and proud to be called democrats. Nowadays the word Democrat has too many negative connotations, and rightly so, that a new word-- 'Progressive' --has been adopted, but it's still a pig, albeit in lipstick.
Next, it's the Democrats who have changed since the 60's, not Republicans-- speaking strictly of 'significant' change. Democrats have successfully co-opted Republican social reforms and claimed them as their own. Democrats are the party of reform; Democrats are the party of Civil Rights; Democrats are the party of Welfare; Democrats are the saviors of the poor Black man, when in fact, Democrats were the party of Slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation, Eugenics (aka 'Population Control').
If anything, Republican's are guilty of letting the Democratic party get away with it. But then, up until 1994 Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, and so could get away with as much as they were able; hindered only by Republican Presidents.
You can believe that fairy tale you call 'American history' all you want, but it can't stand up to cold hard fact.
The Black community votes the way it does because they've been taught that Democrats are the ones who have looked out for them throughout the 20th century, when in fact, it was the other way around. But after MLK was murdered, blacks looked to blacks who were far from ideal replacements for Martin Luther King.
The NAACP, for example, who line their own pockets and advance their own personal agenda's caring nothing for the consequences of Democratic policies on poor blacks. The "reverend" Al Sharpton, full of bigotry, false witness, and avarice. The "reverend" Jesse Jackson (who at least is a step up from Al) as well, lining his own pockets, and caring more for his own public image than for the people he claims to represent. And need I remind you of Louis Farrakhan? These all claim to love the black man, further claiming their desire to see the lowly black man climb out of poverty to stand shoulder to shoulder, as equals, with every other race of man in America, and yet they all condemn, vilify, and abuse those that do. ESPECIALLY if they choose to vote Republican. Oreo's, Uncle Tom's, Traitors, Lawn Jockeys...Tokens! To be a good black one must know his place!
But that place should have remained with the Republican party. The party that has always desired to see blacks, whites, asians, latinos, and so on, learn self-sufficiency. And personal responsibility.
Well. At least some are beginning to see what liberalism, and progressiveness have bought the black man. Men like Bill Cosby, and Juan Williams. The social ills currently abusing the black man in America are the result of "Progressive" social changes... NOT Conservative.

I've watched Washington Journal for years. There is noticably MANY more black conservative voices who call in to voice opinions today than there were five or six years ago!
