Cynical? Who Me?

When President Bush called on former Presidents George H. Bush, and William J. Clinton, and asked them to work toward bringing relief to the Tsunami victims, his response to the disaster was acclaimed, almost universally, as a genuine act of compassion, showing as well, to the rest of the world, America's capacity for generosity.

Today, however, calling once again on his "dream team" relief ambassadors to help alleviate the burdens and suffering of yet another disaster, I find myself waiting for someone to speak out and question his motive. I know it's coming, the left can't help themselves. Someone on the lunatic fringe will insist today's announcement smacks of politics, and a pathetic attempt to boost his job approval rating. Someone will point their finger and accuse the Government of not doing enough.

UPDATE: Sure enough, right on cue, Bob Scheiffer of CBS called the government's response to the disaster a "national disgrace

No eric you're disingenuosly paraphrasing. what Bob Schieffer actually said was "State officials in Louisiana are calling the federal government's response as national disgrace."

I am not a fan of George W. Bush, when I was living in Texas did a good enough job but he has been a travesty for the country. I lost my job as a result of his great work in the oval office. Stem cell research can save hundreds of lives, maybe he shouldn't wait until a tragedy happens before he shows compassion. I doubt you would be as high on Bush if your brother had died in Iraq.

P.s. Kerry sucked too, and so did Gore, bush won by default. Too many Religous freaks in the U.S.

Bush won by default? He won because he got more votes, in both elections.

Oh, and Bush didn't kill your brother, or cause you to lose your job. What that has to do with stem cell research... only you know.

I'm not at all certain your comment is legit anyway, as I find it oddly curious that two comments are posted within 3 minutes of each other-- on an extremely obscure blog, no less --by Ben's. Especially since I work with the "Bent" in comment #1. Curious indeed.

No Eric if you click on BigBen's name you will see he is not me. Though I have to agree with his statement that George Bush does tend to wait till after the fact to "feel others pain." While Katrina was coming ashore Bush continued his normal schedule. He didn't react until the day after the levees broke. Today while touring the destruction in Alabama his comment: The good news is -- and it's hard for some to see it now -- that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- he's lost his entire house -- there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch. (Laughter.) I can't wait to hear him commiserating with the victims in New Orleans.

Admittedly, some crazy things come out of his mouth at times. I highly doubt Gore or Kerry would have responded any sooner. After all, they would have both been stuck with the same media Bush is saddled with, albeit with vast amounts of ass-kissing. Bush, at least, can go to sleep at night knowing his cheeks were not soiled by countless pairs of unclean lips.

Um actually the situation would have been entirely different if Gore was President. First we would not be in a military engagement in Iraq. FEMA would probably not have been folded into the Homeland Security Dept. and had its mission refocused. More Mississippi state and Louisiana state guardsmen would have been avialable to handle quick response to the hurricane instead of waiting for the National Guard.

Who knows what the situation would be like if Kerry had been elected. I can tell you though that the media has very little to do with how the federal government is being percieved with this event.

A major hurricane striking at or near New Orleans has been one of the top three disaster facing this country for decades. If the government wasn't prepared to handle the situation when it finally happened is not the media's fault. How would the nation react if it took 4 days for the governmnet to respond after a terrorist attack on New York. Or what about 4 days to respond to a major earthquake in Los Angeles. Thos are the other two top disaster scenarios in the country. And with Katrina the government had days of warning. If the federal governmnet gets poor media attention, it's their own damn fault. That's personal responsibility.

First off...
You can't possibly know the situation would be entirely different. Nor could you know we would not be in Iraq. It's just like a Liberal to find a convenient 'mantra' and cling to it like it's the only thing keeping them afloat, never mind the nice dry boat bobbing merrily nearby.

As to the media. They still would have touted the "dodged a bullet" line until the true scope of the New Orleans disaster was realized. And yes, they would have been kissing Kerry's ass from day one; they actively campaigned for him! They kissed Clinton's ass-- boy, there's a man who could do no wrong! No way will you ever get me to believe the Media would have given Bush the same pass/latitude they gave Clinton. No way on God's green earth!

Lastly, the Federal Government can't send troops anywhere in the U.S. on a "military" operation without a state's request. You conveniently blame the Federal Govt. because the administration that runs it is Republican, but you don't even look at the city and state officials who , quite simply, failed to do the best they could.
