I'm Beginning to Feel Like a Victim

I've touched on this before, but FEMA finally seems to have opened their eyes. It would seem some FEMA officials are shocked that some Katrina evacuees have used their hastily-issued-by-FEMA-in-a-knee-jerk-response-to-criticism $2000 relief stipends at Strip Clubs, "Oh, My!" and Package Stores, "Good Gracious!" How many lap dances will $2000 buy, I wonder?

What's incredible is Louis Farrakhan's assertion over the weekend at his "Million More-or-Less March" that the residents of The infamous 9th Ward are victims, not merely welfare recipients. These victims deserved better than for Bush to blow up the levee and flood them out so he can reshape New Orleans into a white, bright city.

Well, I'm a taxpayer, and I'm beginning to feel like a victim.

I like the term "Million Smore" better!
Our neighboring county put some evacuess up on a church-camp property the week after Katrina. Our whole area is surrounded by dry counties. When many of them realized they wouldn't have ready access to liquor stores, they requested to be re-relocated to an area whre they could get "good" use out of their FEMA cards. True story!

It is an awful slippery slope when you start asking the government to legislate morality. What would the punishment be for adultery? What will the police fine you for cursing? Are you ready to have your tax refund automatically deposited into a retirement account (for your own good)?

When those cards were given out it was widely promoted that the evacuees could use the cards for whatever they needed. Well if my life was just turned upside down like those people. I'd want a stiff drink too.

Our government already legislates morality. Cases in point:

-Abortion.

-Same sex marriage.

-Death with Dignity.

-The removal of God from education in the public school system.

-It's Illegal for the 10 commandments to be displayed IN the courtroom.

-It's Legal for the 10 commandments to be displayed on Court property.

These things are considered Moral by those who fight for them. Immoral by those who fight against them.

What I'm ready for is this Government to take more responsibility for the choices they make with my tax money. But then, that's what elections are for. Don't worry though, you don't have to fight for more Governmental responsibility, I'll do it for you.

Furthermore, it's not just booze and lap dances some of these idiots are getting. What about the woman who spent hers on breast implants?

These people need help, sure. It's this nations obligation to step in and help as needed. But it's irresponsible to give a drunk $2000 bucks and expect him to spend it on housing, and transportation, let alone food.

With the billion that will be spent rebuilding the Gulf Coast and New Orleans, can we really afford to be stupid? Vouchers would have been a better choice. With a much smaller stipend for cash.

I have no problem with a good stiff drink. I have a problem with taxpayer-funded drunks on the street, and my tax dollars being slipped into the G-String of some slut in a strip club.

Play the Devils Advocate all you want, but FEMA made a poor decision in issuing "cash" cards, instead of vouchers.

Your arguments ring hollow. Fines for cursing? Give me a break. As to Adultery, the Military still punishes that... How Barbaric!

Your post seemed to be criticizing the evacuees for using the money for whatever they wanted. This was of course one of the points that was promoted when the cards were first distributed.

Is that the take you got when FEMA announced its intentions? That's not what I heard. My understanding was these monies were intended to help these evacuees resettle. Not get breast implants, stay drunk, or take part in any festivities at explicit adult entertainment venues.

My taxes already get spent on a whole host of items I consider foolish, even wasteful. And I believe this is something the average tax-payer will heartily agree with me on.
