Evidence the U.S. has not done its job...

...In Afghanistan

Exibit 1: The Defendant's Bible
[
Mumbled word of thanx to Ms Malkin]

It's only the most peaceful religion on the face of the Earth, but that won't matter one iota to Abdul Rahman, an Afghani who's on trial for converting to Christianity. If found guilty he'll be executed.

Say what you will about America going to hell in a hand-basket; for the most part I'll agree with you, but we're not this far gone...

...Yet

Abdul needs your prayers. So does America.

Rather than say the U.S. hasn't done its job and just leave that statement hanging, perhaps I should have pointed out that the meat of this story only demonstrates the limited ability the U.S. has in determining the degree to which democracy takes hold in countries we choose to force change upon.

Iraq will be much the same as Afghanistan... Free to choose for themselves. And like Afghanistan it will be [hopefully] a much freer society than what it was under Saddam and his monstrous sons, Uday and Qusay.

Our job has always been to give the Iraqis the freedom to choose for themselves how they would be governed under the auspices of a constitution they themselves would write. In this we have done our job, though I don't expect we will like the end result as much as we had hoped.

Question is: How many 'Abdul Rahman's' will Iraq try in a court of law, for the crime of being a Christian?

We have it so easy here.

It's not getting any easier, though, El.

If you frequent left-wing blogs (and I'm sure you're aware of this as savvy as you obviously are), you'll find that it could easily be Christians in America facing capital punishment for their beliefs in the future.

Heck, een many "Libertarian" bloggers view Christianity as a barrier to progress. How long could it be before Americans are criminally liable for claiming Christianity?

Elrod... It will happen here. Perhaps not the death penalty for belief, but persecutions? arrests? It's inevitable. Christians are already subject to public ridicule.

Liberals have done irreparable damage to this nation. I don't want to believe it, but I can't find reason to believe this nation will ever turn back to God.

Today, I am most certainly the glass half full.

The Bible warns us that we will be persecuted for His sake. This is part of the beginning of much worse to come. When I hear reports like this, I always hearken back to the old question asked of us believers..."If it was illegal to be a Christian, would there be enoigh evidence to convict you?"

I fear we are about to find out.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add...I hope there is enough evidence to convict me. Better to serve in Heavern than rule in Hell.

Whatever happened to Milton? He's not particularly popular these days. I'm with you though.

Lord, help me build a case against myself.

This is HILARIOUS! I never cease to be amazed at how much Christians love to feel like they're being persecuted.

Not only is the vast majority of our nation Christian (I was raised one by the way), but we're more Christian than we have ever been in our history. We went from having most of our founding fathers being non Christians to a situation where it's nearly impossible to be elected to public office without being a Christian. Heck, your boys are in the White House, and control both houses of Congress!

And you can't go anywhere without hearing Christian radio or seeing multiple Christian cable stations. Churches are everywhere, Christmas decorations are everywhere.

No, I'm NOT complaining. It's fine with me and I would defend your right to worship as you choose to the death.

But for the love of Christ, get a grip! Sorry to inform you, but you're not persecuted! If anything, the threat is that we will become a theocracy like the Muslim countries you like to disparage. And the excuse will be the threat posed by Muslim terrorists, just like Milosevic used them as an excuse for the murder of thousands.

And you, ELAshley, are helping that happen.

Last time I checked the White House was won by a narrow margin twice-- 'narrow' as in percentage. This nation is not overwhelmingly Christian. Nor are most folks who call themselves Christian truly 'Christian'.

We are not being persecuted here and now, but our rights are being whittled away; it's a struggle for the soul of our nation that we find ourselves in right now. But, if you are Christian, you must know that America will ultimately reject Christ. The evidence is all around us.

My concern at present is not for myself, it's for Abdul Rahman and thousands of others like him around the world who are not as fortunate as we are.

I have a firm grip, thank you. As for disparaging Muslim nations... they're Muslim nations, filled with Muslim people who suffer from the same disease from which we suffer; namely, Sin. They're in need of a savior every bit as much as we are. And Muhammad does not fit the bill. If they continue to follow Muhammad they will perish. Abdul Rahman would make a great advocate for Christ in Afghanistan.

I don't expect either of the emails I sent to the President & the Vice-President to even be read by them personally... It's a silly dream I have. But I can't just sit back and do nothing.

Thank you for your comments, and welcome back.
