8:43 AM ...::UPDATED::...
Hmmm... Scooter Libby can expect to serve 1-3 years in prison for lying about something he had no good reason to lie about, while Sandy Berger who stole, defaced AND destroyed classified documents-- an act of treason --gets off with a slap on the wrist and a fine? Why? Perhaps because Scooter worked for a Republican, and Sandy worked for a Liberal.
Joe Wilson was crowing yesterday about how justice was done and the media allowed it. Yet the media is all too willing-- and complicit --to ignore the fact that Joe Wilson is a greater liar than Scooter Libby. It was, after all, Joe Wilson's lie that started this whole affair.
America has sunk so low, and continues to sink, not because of the Libby verdict, but because of it's glaring hypocrisy in its dichotomous and preferential perceptions of right and wrong; what's punishable and what's not worth the effort based on political orientation. Our government is supposed to be 'of the people, by the people, for the people' yet the culture in Washington is Liberal in it's orientation... its ideological bent. How can a culture that so defines itself as Liberal claim to be a voice for the entire nation?
It can't.
That's why Scooter Libby is guilty of a heinous offense against truth and justice, and Sandy Berger gets an 'Aw, shucks, Sand-man! Ya shouldn't orta done that! But you meant well and that orta count fer sump'n, right? Run along now and play a while, make sure yer back in time fer dinner!'
Working on the assumption that there will ALWAYS be some who simply do not get it, at least a third of America is woefully inexperienced and unequipped to make moral judgments. And most of Media capitalize on this, knowing they can run roughshod over just about any issue they choose; pedaling snake oil to a besotted nation unable to differentiate between right and wrong, fact from fiction, relevant from irrelevant, the inspiring from the banal. This nation has become, in Coulter's colorful language, a nation of faggots; wussified Oprah worshippers, and the senseless fans of insensate celebrities like Britney [Who?], WHO should be pitied rather than put upon a pedestal.
May God have mercy on us all!

Update: 2:26 PM
Ari Emanuel, HuffPo blowhard, has established a countdown for the Cheney resignation.
That's it! That's his entire post at HuffPo! These people are so deluded by their own hypocrisy and their inability to read [the indictment of Scooter Libby]. This is not about Cheney or Bush, however tortured the Liberal logic of the day. This is about Libby lying. Obstruction of Justice!?!? Please! That's a highly subjective charge that carries with it very little weight considering the jury was sat from a pool of Washingtonians... a staunch Liberal fiefdom if ever there was one!
Also, in lockstep with the party line, Meredith Vieira on this morning's Today Show asked Tim Russert, "Is this the beginning of the end, do you believe, for the Vice President?"
What!?!? Can you not see the foam gathered at the corners of their mouths?
From Mark Finkelstein's NewsBusters entry:
This goes back to my earlier statement-- "...[M]ost of Media capitalize on [the general public's ignorance], knowing they can run roughshod over just about any issue they choose; pedaling snake oil to a besotted nation unable to differentiate between right and wrong, fact from fiction, relevant from irrelevant, the inspiring from the banal..."
If America spends it's every waking hour listening to the likes of CBS, ABC, NBS, MSNBC, CNN, and to some extent FOX, it's not a wonder this nation has surrendered it's God given right to think and choose for itself.
If nothing else in life is true, this certainly is: We deserve the government/society/culture we get if we choose not to make our leaders, ourselves, and those who seek to teach and instruct us, accountable.
There is little enough accountability in the hollowed halls of Government and Media as it is. Trying to stand up now would be to invite the image of that poor mole in the immensely humorous Whac-a-Mole Arcade game... But anything worth doing is worth giving it your all... however many times you get whacked.
Half-assed merely slows the poison, and slowing the poison is not STOPPING the poison. But that's what Liberalism is... Poison.

Update: 2:26 PM
Ari Emanuel, HuffPo blowhard, has established a countdown for the Cheney resignation.
My prediction about Dick Cheney is one step closer to coming true. My clock gives it three weeks before his resignation letter lands on Bush's desk. What does your clock say?
That's it! That's his entire post at HuffPo! These people are so deluded by their own hypocrisy and their inability to read [the indictment of Scooter Libby]. From Mark Finkelstein's NewsBusters entry:
Sounds like Russert calling for the head of the Vice-President. The Vice-President is of course a separately-elected constitutional officer. He does not serve at the pleasure of the president. Leaving that aside, and even by Tim's terms, neither Cheney nor Libby could have "leaked" Plame's identity since it was, thanks to Richard Armitage, already out there. But that didn't stop Russert, with a little helpful prodding from Vieira, from none-too-subtly suggesting that Cheney should go.

I've seen no evidence whatsoever of Cheney backing down in any way.
If anything, he has been more vocal and assertive in the past few weeks that ever before.
If I had my druthers, I would rather see President Bush resign, and Cheney take over as POTUS, and then watch Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, et al deal with someone who has the backbone to stand up to them. (And absolutely nothing to lose.)
Cheney isn't going anywhere.
"at least a third of America is woefully inexperienced and unequipped to make moral judgments."
Which third is that, I'm curious?
God reigned when Israel was in captivity.
My generation...my parents' generation....has failed America...the world...and God.
"Which third is that, Im curious?"
Umm...uh...the third that "is woefully inexperienced and unequipped to make moral judgments."
Well, Dan, to be completely honest, that one third-- being a rough estimate --are those who rely on men to lead them, holding spiritual truth in disdain.... those who don't view God and the Bible as I do.
Now, I realize that last statement-- depending on ones ideological orientation --displays either tremendous hubris and conceit, or something slightly less than godly wisdom, BUT, truth is, these are the people who will look to anything and everything OTHER than God, and His holy word, and that includes many who sit on a church pew. The church is full of Apostasy and-- let's not mince words --Apsotates. Many of these Apostates stand in the pulpit.
I honestly don't know what's worse: those who completely reject God, or those who make a pretense of acceptance by sitting on a pew, while working, knowingly or not, to subvert the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. THAT is who this broad third is. And their number is likely much larger than a third.
This nation has sunk to the level it has because of unbelief, and out-right rejection of God and Godly values.
One thing is for sure.
At least you have the facts straight.
I have a difficult time differentiating between the daily stories from the media and the Democratic Party's "talking points" so-called news releases.
"I honestly don't know what's worse: those who completely reject God, or those who make a pretense of acceptance by sitting on a pew, while working, knowingly or not, to subvert the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. THAT is who this broad third is. And their number is likely much larger than a third."
I actually agree with all of this and much of what you've written - that is, that there are a large number of people who subvert the Gospel, ignoring Jesus' words in favor of other teachings. I don't think they mean to so much as they merely accept what they've been taught in lieu of what the Bible actually says.
Where I might part ways with you is that I don't think that what I might consider the poor reasoning ability of some significant portion of our nation makes them unequipped to make moral judgements.
We all must and do make moral decisions. I don't necessarily agree with the decisions others make, but I trust the process of us all making our own flawed decisions to be the best option in this flawed world.
This is probably what you're saying, too. I'm sure you're not advocating taking away anyone's option of making decisions - flawed or not. It's just that it sounded a bit like that's what you're suggesting.
I do also agree with you when you said that saying, "those who don't view God and the Bible as I do." will make you sound full of hubris.
Peace will never come through human effort. If it could, what need would man have for God? Isn't this partly why God scrambled the languages at Babel? He said, 'If man can do this much in so short a time, imagine what he might do if we allow this to continue'... paraphrased, of course.
The short of it is this. If we could achieve true, lasting peace on our own God would get no glory from it. If we could save ourselves, why should man give glory to Jesus? The idea that man can achieve peace, keep the world from starving, lift everyone out of poverty, is the mantra of the Apostate... the Godless.
I understood Dan's intent, and I don't feel the least bit insulted by it, or remotely hurt. Dan was polite, and that's all I ask....
...Well... that and REPENTANCE. But, as I have no control over the latter, I must settle for the former.
"If we could achieve true, lasting peace on our own God would get no glory from it." That seems like an awfully simplistic of god.
Simplistic because you're saying that your god only gets glory from the things he does personally. Aren't you denying that the works of Saul, paul, peter, moses, noah, etc. all glorified god.
The follow-up question has to be: Are you suggesting "REAL" Christians don't strive for world peace or an end to hunger etc.?
"Aren't you denying that the works of Saul, paul... all glorified God?"
Actually, no. It was their obedience to God's command that brought Him glory... HE would have been glorified WITHOUT their obedience, but all the moreso BECAUSE of their obedience. It may appear from a human standpoint that Peter, Paul, Moses, Noah, et al, did great works that brought glory to God, but in actuality its more a case of submission to the will of God allowing God to work THROUGH them thereby allowing great works to be performed that inturn brought God glory. Obedient men to the will of God are but vessels of HIS glory. Nothing more. For any man of God to suggest otherwise is to fall into sin.
"It was their obedience to God's command that brought Him glory."
Are you claiming that only by obeying God's command, are humans able to bring god glory? Do you mean direct commands or general guidelines?
Mother Teresa never said anything about a burning bush telling her to minister in Calcutta, but still an argument could be made that she glorified your god.
Does Jimmy Carter bring glory to your god with his temporal works? He's provided housing for untold thousands, advocated freedom around the world, and still teaches sunday school in georgia.
"If we could achieve true, lasting peace on our own God would get no glory from it."
Does this mean that you're ready to trust God to bring peace or will you continue to rely upon an army?
When have armies ever been about peace? Still, to exist without one, and one capable of standing strong, no nation can hope to remain free for long.
I don't rely on the United States Military to bring peace... for there can be no peace without God. I rely on the United States Military to defend this nation against all aggressors, foreign or domestic, to stand ready in time of relative calm, and take up arms in time of war.
Mom2 perhaps mine and Dan's sole purpose is to be here asking EL tough questions. Perhaps by asking these questions we spur a world changer. A new spiritual leader, a political activist. Your god certainly needs his villians as well as his saints. Someone must be the roman legionaire, or Pontius Pilot, or Herrod, or Cain. The entire purpose of Judas's life might be said to betray Jesus, and what was his recompense.
Matthew 26:24 24The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
