"I Can't Stand to See the Slaughter...
The following was lifted from the second to last page of Ann Coulter's Godless...
"Like the victims of the Holocaust, animals are rounded up, trucked hundreds of miles to the kill floor and slaughtered. Comparisons to the Holocaust are not only appropriate but inescapable because, whether we wish to admit it or not, cows, chickens, pigs and turkeys are as capable of feeling loneliness, fear, pain, joy and affection as we are. To those who defend the modern-day holocaust on animals by saying that animals are slaughtered for food and give us sustenance, I ask: If the victims of the Holocaust had been eaten, would that have justified the abuse and murder? Did the fact that lampshades, soaps and other "useful" products were made from their bodies excuse the Holocaust? No. Pain is pain."

The twisted logic of a wacked-out Lib to be sure. No doubt! But I can't deny the image. I watch tractor-trailers loaded down with chickens drive by to the Purdue Plant all the time.
I remember one time being thrilled to see a chicken manage to escape its cage and fall to the street while the rig waited at a traffic light. The chicken didn't know where it was or what to do next so it ventured into the other lane and was promptly run over.
I've run a few posts here on the holocaust of chickens in this country-- albeit jokingly. And though I do on occasion eat chicken, I still find myself wishing I could push the plate away and say, no thanks... I'll pass.
Sometimes the thought of eating meat sickens me. But, as Tower of Power so aptly sang...
"I can't stand to see the slaughter
But still I eat the meat"

Soylent Green, anyone?
The break down in the letter-writer's logic is that absent from his view is the reality of God, and the fact that we are made in HIS image. This is what distinquishes us from the animal world. We are not just a higher level of animals, but those made uniquely in HIS image. We have also been told that we have every right, given to us by our Creator, to kill animals for the purposes of eating those animals.
I know that the letter writer will reject this truth. So what if he does? Let us press on and do what we know to be true and right. I respect him, but not his opinion. Now, off to the Chinese restaurant for some chicken lo mein.
