"There seems to be a kind of conspiracy to forget, or to conceal, where the doctrine of hell comes from. The doctrine of hell is not 'mediaeval priestcraft' for frightening people into giving money to the church: it is Christ's deliberate judgment on sin... We cannot repudiate Hell without altogether repudiating Christ"

Here's an interesting study on exactly what the Bible does and doesn't say about death, sheol, hades and hell:

This echoes what I've studied in the Bible: That many of our conceptions about hell are a bit skewed from biblical teachings in favor of popular culture teachings (pop culture of the last 800 years), but that the Bible does talk about ultimate justice, punishment and separation from God.

Interesting, perhaps. But only in that it illustrates how completely deceived so-called scholars are today.

While I don't deny the author's idea of national judgment, I most certainly deny, and 'repudiate' his conclusions.

Because you will ask: The reason I re-posted you comment sans link, is because it's tripe, and I won't have anyone who happens by being lured to any false teaching. There's enough confusion in the Church already and I won't add to it by allow you or anyone else to add to it. I took the liberty of checking out the page you sent FIRST before allowing the rest of your comment through. I realize this all but ruins any underlying point your comment was intended to make, and for that I sincerely apologize.

There is too much contention here. If I'm to be even marginally effective, I have to make more of an effort to tone things down... and take a more active roll in this ships direction. I didn't want to turn on comment moderation, but I didn't see any other option. This action was not taken to personally insult you or malign your own beliefs... You are welcome to them. I firmly believe you're wrong! But I can't make you change what you believe any more than you can make me change what I believe. This should have been thoroughly sunk into both of our obstinant heads long ago.

I don't think it critical that we agree. I think it very important that we don't cease to dialog. But you can do as you wish, of course.
